Using ear candles is a simple home remedy that is said by many to assist in the
removal of ear wax and may improve any of the following conditions: sinus
problems, sore throat, ear ache, swimmer’s ear, some chronic headaches,
allergies, ear wax removal and hearing difficulty.
Although it may sound a little silly, using these bees wax ear candles for ear
candling is very easy to do and the person receiving the treatment may hear a
slight “crackling” sound and usually feels considerably better after using the
ear candle treatment.
How to Use Your Ear Candles:
Materials Needed: One candle per ear, paper plate, scissors, matches, a pillow,
a small bowl containing water, and a friend to help.
Procedures: Take a paper plate and cut a hole in the center big enough
to put the ear candle SNUGLY through it. (Be sure it is snug – this prevents any
dripping wax from going down the side of the candle onto your hair, etc.) The
smaller end is to be on the bottom side of the plate sticking through enough to
be placed at the beginning of the ear canal.
The person who is being candled should lie on his/her side with a pillow under
his/her head and neck. The person assisting should sit at the back with the bowl
of water nearby. The pillow should hold the head, neck and back all in a
straight line. (The candle should be perpendicular to the ear.)
The candle has one pointed end. This is the end to be inserted gently into the
ear opening. This is done gently so that no pain is caused. Make sure that you
have a tight seal around the ear *use your fingers). Any smoke will disappear as
the candle begins to draw. (Think of how a chimney works.) The person being
candled should hear crackling sounds at all times. If the crackling sound
ceases, the candle may be temporarily clogged or bent. Move it around until the
crackling sound can be heard again. Also, inserting a toothpick to clear the
clog may quickly clean the candle.
Light the larger end. Insert the candle into the paper plate and then into the
ear. The second person must supervise the burning of the candle. Make sure it
remains straight and does not tip. As the candle burns, it will curl and must be
cut off to keep the ends open. Place these burned ends into the water. After the
candle burns down to within 3 to 4 inches from the small end, the second person
should take the plate and candle from the ear and then put out the fire. Do this
by dipping it into the water. Wipe any residue from the ear. Pull the cone out
of the plate and cut off the burned end. Now unwrap remaining candle, cut it
open and examine it. It is believed that the darker liquid or wax comes from the
ear. The other wax is from the burning candle. Often the two are mixed and
swirled together.
